When slavery ended, it just kept taking on different forms and it can easily be traced back. There’s no greater visual than prisons in the deep South, like Angola, they’re giant farms that are patrolled by men with guns on horseback while mostly Black men work in the fields.

The exception is a really poor excuse to treat prisoners like they are less than human. Ending the exception means that we tell people who are prisoners, that they have value, that we want them to be the best versions of themselves that they can be.
